A simple video converter that can convert your AVI files into MPEG format. It can also generate a new AVI file using a different compression codec – XviD or DivX. The program is capable of generating VCD, SVCD or DVD-compliant MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 files. In addition, it includes disc burning capabilities, with support for both VCDs and DVDs. It can convert your AVI files into batches.
The program's user interface is quite simple, especially compared with other video conversion tools. It allows you to add one or more source AVI video files for conversion. Those files are listed showing their file type (AVI), the source directory and the default output directory. No other relevant information is provided. You can check or uncheck any of the files on the list, and – once you are happy with your selection – press the "Convert" button. You will see a menu from where you can choose the destination format, the standard or codec you want your source video(s) to be converted into. Curiously enough, though "WMV" is part of the program's name, it does not include any option to convert your AVI files into that format.
The program also includes a "Play" button that allows you to play both your source and your converted video files. However, it does not include any type of media player, and it will simply launch your default player. In addition, you can open the "Preferences" window to configure some basic parameters about the supported formats, specially the video size and the frame rate. Once again, you are offered to configure some parameters for your "WMV" files, but you will not be able to convert any video into that format.
In short, even though the program is truly affordable, it is too simple, and it cannot compare with other –way more comprehensive– video converters. It only allows you to convert your AVI files into a very short range of destination formats.
